Rules
1 | Spirit of "Cricket" | The spirit of cricket should always prevail ! ICC rules apply - only local interpretations are that:
This is a long-standing friendly league that has withstood many changes over the years (governments, currencies, ZCU boards of control etc) and the reason for its popularity and success is that it is run and played by cricketers for the love of the game only !
2 | Disciplinary Committee | In the very rare instance that situations cannot be resolved amicably by the two opposing teams and their
captains - then written (email) suggestions can be put forward to the organiser who will then liaise with two elders of the game
Hon. Mark Stonier & Mr Michael Seager - their decisions will be final ! (In advent of organiser's team or HSC being involved
the Hon. Mark Stonier will advise on his own (he may ask for advice if deemed necessary).
3 | Playing Rules | ||
New Ball | Where possible a new ball should be used by each team at the start of an innings.
If for some reason, no new ball is available the opposing captain must be advised before the game starts & approve the ball
Start Time | Play to start at 1.30pm promptly (ie: 1.00pm arrival)
Slow Play | Both captains should try ensure prompt start, quick turn around after overs and between innings
so that a full game of cricket can be played. In the event of altered starting times to accommodate
another event (Super 14, wedding etc) - captains to liaise. Teams to be given 2 weeks grace to catch-up missed games.
Bouncers | As per existing ICC Rules bowlers are allowed 1 short ball per over - over the head bouncer = a wide
Captains should use discretion bowling such balls to elderly, very young or tail-ender players.
Walking | Batsmen are encouraged to walk when out - not to wait for a decision when they know they are out
Bowlers Restrictions | In T20 format 5 bowlers may bowl a maximum of 4 overs each
In 30-Over format, all bowlers may ONLY bowl a maximum of 5 overs each !
No Ball | The front foot "no ball" rule will now be implemented and the resulting free hit. No field place changes are allowed
unless a single is taken on the initial no ball. There will NOT be a free hit if a no ball is awarded because a bowler goes over
over the side lines, just a "front foot" no ball (this is a technical infringement, not "over-stepping" like the front foot no ball).
Also now a "new no ball rule" = beamers above waist height (at the crease) will apply and also attract a free hit !
Pitch Preparation | Captains should liaise with their groundsmen to try and maintain a fair batting wicket for all games
Declarations | In T20 format - compulsory declaration for "ALL batters" after they pass 50
In 30-Over format - compulsory declaration for all "ex-national" players at "75" (see list below)
All other players must retire at 100 (if anyone reaches it - they are entitled to a free beer !)
Retired batters may return to the crease if their side is 9 wickets down, to continue their innings
Powerplays | Compulsory now to use ICC ruling that first 6 overs of T20 game only 2 boundary fielders + 2 compulsory catchers
30-Overs = compulsory powerplay in first 6 overs = only 2 boundary fielders + 2 compulsory catchers
+ 2 other 3-over powerplays = one each by the bowling & batting captain to be taken anytime thereafter
NEW | Powerplays | Compulsory first 5 (reduced from 6) overs of T20 game only 2 boundary fielders + 2 compulsory catchers, Batting Powerplay (2 overs) - available to batting side from 11th - 15th overs, if not taken early = automatic in 14th over, Only 3 boundary fielders allowed, other 6 to be in the circle (no compulsory catchers)
L B W | For the sake of fairness & consistency from game to game, NO FRONT FOOT lbw decisions should be
given. Batsman must be coming forward and attempting a stroke. Backfoot - umpires to use their discretion
and be as fair as possible - if it's "plum", it must be given out !
Remember - if ball pitches outside leg stump, it can NEVER be given out.
On the offside, ball can pitch outside the line of the stumps but must hit batter in line (& only on back foot) and be going onto hit
Bonus Points | If bowling team gets opposition "All Out" = 1 bonus point
In T20 format - batting side earns a bonus point if they score at more than 7 runs per over
In 30-over format - batting team earn 1 bonus point (only) for scoring at 6 runs per over or more
Umpires Decision is Final | Where an umpire gives a decision during play - it cannot be over-ruled, with the exception being where the opposition captain
may at his discretion, invite the batsman to continue batting.
4 | Social Etiquette | ||
This is a serious social league, basic concept is to play hard and then relax hard too !
Heckling and badgering of batsmen should not become excessive or ever unpleasant, captains accountable !
Home teams are expected to buy their opponents a round of drinks and visitors should reciprocate
Ex-National Players | G Rennie, T Gripper, S Carlisle, D Viljoen, C Evans, D Marillier, M Waller, C Lock etc
in the "75" Club | Franchise Players also now include - R Butterworth, PJ Moore, N Waller, R Butt etc |
